PLANNED JAIL ESCAPE FOILED

                    PLANNED JAIL ESCAPE FOILED BY DETENTION OFFICERS

During the early morning hours on Sunday June 5, 2015. Edwards County Detention Officer Nicole Alonzo heard a noise coming from the cell that housed inmate Jason Stevens from Arkansas. Alonzo went to the cell and Stevens tried to block Alonzo's view. Alonzo knew that he was up to no good.

Moments later at shift change, Alonzo alerted Detention Officer April Leighton and together they discovered that Stevens had been planning an escape by removing a light fixture from the ceiling of his cell. Apparently Stevens had been working on this plan for a quite some time, and even took time to mold toilet paper to make it look like caulk so the Detention Officers would not discover his plan.

By doing exactly what they were supposed to do, Detention Officers Nicole Alonzo and April Leighton foiled Jason Steven's plan to escape. The Edwards County Detention Facility is a facility that no inmate has ever escaped from.

Stevens was later charged with Escape and Criminal Mischief $2500-$30,000, both felonies in the State of Texas and bonds placed on both charges total $30,000.00. Bond was set by the honorable Judge Souli Shanklin, County Judge of Edwards County.
